This year registration/screening will be held at the Jeanne B. McCoy Community Center for the Arts, 100 West Granville Street, New Albany, Ohio 43054, on April 5, 6, & 7. Permanent Improvement Levy Expires – Collection Begins on Operating Levy
December 29, 2009
Five years ago, voters in New Albany-Plain Local Schools approved the replacement of a five-year permanent improvement (PI) levy that has been used to cover capital assets, such as textbooks, new school buses, classroom technology, equipment, and large-scale maintenance and repairs.

Originally passed in 1984, the 2.0 mill permanent improvement levy was replaced every five years by the district’s voters. Because of the district’s projected financial position for the next few years, as well as sensitivity to the current economic conditions, the Board of Education decided to forgo requesting the renewal of the PI levy, allowing the current 2.0 mill levy to expire at the end of the calendar year. As a result of this decision, taxpayers will see a savings of approximately $50 per $100,000 in home value.
In November, 2008, voters in NA-PLS passed an operating levy that will begin collection in January, 2010. When taking into consideration the savings from the expiring PI levy, voters should expect to see the school-portion of their tax bill increase by approximately $89.43 per $100,000 in home value.
While there is considerable uncertainty at the state level regarding school funding, according to district’s Five Year Forecast, NA-PLS should be able to remain in a secure financial position through at least 2013. This is a result of the support of our taxpayers as well as strong fiscal management and enhanced operational efficiencies.
We are very appreciative of the support of our community, and we remain fully committed to ensuring the resources you provide us are used in a fiscally responsible manner.

Each Action Team will be comprised of 15-20 members, reflecting a mix of community and staff. If you would like to volunteer to be on an Action Team, complete and mail a volunteer form from the district's Strategic Planning page on the district Web site, or email your interest to strategicplan@napls.us.
