Once our families have completed the pre-registration process, your child will be assigned a day and time for their registration appointment. This information will be shared with you in the enrollment packet that will be mailed in March.

This year registration/screening will be held at the Jeanne B. McCoy Community Center for the Arts, 100 West Granville Street, New Albany, Ohio 43054, on April 5, 6, & 7. Please tentatively reserve these dates until you receive the registration packet with the assigned day and time of your child’s appointment. Only one parent is required to attend this appointment with the child but both parents are welcome.

During the 2010-2011 school year the New Albany Plain Local School District will be offering half-day kindergarten only. We have applied for the one year waiver for the 2010-2011 school year to give our district more time to prepare for the transition to full-day kindergarten.

*If your child does not meet the age requirement for kindergarten please visit this link for information about early enrollment.

Fifth graders invited to try out instruments for next school year

February 19, 2010

Fifth-grade students are invited to try musical instruments before making the decision whether to join sixth grade vocal or instrumental music. Their music teachers will offer appointment times for incoming students to handle and play various instruments. At these appointments, teachers hope to help students determine the “best match” before the student makes a decision to join choir, band or orchestra.

The appointments will be available March 2, 3, or 4, between 4 and 8 p.m., and can be scheduled by connecting to middle school music teachers’ classroom portals. Additional information about music class choices and instrument selection is available on the teacher portals at curriculum.new-albany.k12.oh.us/msportal.htm.

Nationally-renowned author to visit NA 2-5 in early March

February 19, 2010

Dr. Patricia Polacco has written and illustrated over 50 children’s books, and travels the country to encourage students to pursue their reading and writing dreams (though she did not learn to read until she was nearly 14 years old, when it was learned that she had dyslexia). Her books reflect adventures and situations of different family members from the old country of Russia, the Civil War, World War II and her years growing up in Michigan and California. She comes from a family where one parent was Jewish and the other a Christian.

As a result of the generous support of the 2-5 PTO, all 62 classes at the 2 - 5 building will attend sessions with Pallaco, March 1-5. In her last session, she will create a drawing for the school to permanently display to mark her visit.

Committee members represent many facets of our Learning Community, including parents, business leaders, community leaders, teachers, and school classified staff representatives. Recommendations will be presented to the Board of Education, for consideration of a potential bond issue. To follow the work of the Campus Master Planning Committee, please visit this link.
